Tennis stars suit up for the 2026 Argentina Open. Here’s what you need to know

Date:

Some of the world’s best male tennis players will be flocking to Buenos Aires over the next few days as the 2026 Argentina Open, the biggest men’s tennis tournament in Argentina, is set to take off on February 9. One of the most important and prestigious tournaments in South American tennis, the Argentina Open is where the likes of Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, and Casper Ruud rose to stardom. Argentine stars like Guillermo Coria, Gastón Gaudio, and David Nalbandian also made their names under the Buenos Aires spotlight.  Here’s everything you need to know about the 2026 Argentina Open. Who’s playing in the 2026 Argentina Open? The 2026 tournament took a big hit just a few days ago, as world no. 5 Italian Lorenzo Musetti had to withdraw following an injury he sufferedat the 2026 Australian Open. A tear in Musetti’s right adductor muscle during his quarterfinal match against Novak Djokovic (3) in Melbourne forced him to withdraw when he was two sets up. “I underwent specific exams, and the results were not great,” said Musetti in a video the tournament shared on Instagram. “We decided to take a little bit of time to recover well, and I’m really sad to say, unfortunately, I won’t be participating in the Buenos Aires tournament.” He went on to wish “the best of luck” to all competing players and the organization, adding that he “hopes to get another chance next year.” The tournament is yet to announce who’ll replace Musetti. The possibility of another top-ten player competing isn’t discarded, with Spanish former world no.3 David Ferrer getting a last-minute invitation in 2014 to replace his countryman Nadal.  That’s not to say there won’t be any top stars. Without Musetti, the leading candidate will be 2025 finalist Francisco Cerúndolo (19). Brazilian sensation and 2026 champion João Fonseca (34) is also making a comeback, while former top ten Italian Matteo Berrettini will be making his Argentina Open debut. French legend and 2018 semifinalist Gael Monfils also received a wild card, in what’s his farewell season from the men’s tennis tour. Where will the 2026 Argentina Open be played? Since its new-format inception in 2000, the Argentina Open has been played at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club in Palermo.  Founded in 1892, the club is one of the staples of the Argentine tennis scene and a founding member of the Asociación Argentina de Tenis (Argentine Tennis Association) in 1921.  The main stadium, where all major games and the final are played, is the Horacio Billoch Caride. Named after a former AAT and club president, it has a seating capacity of 5,500. In 2016, the court inside the stadium was named Guillermo Vilas Center Court, in honor of the famed Argentine player. Get there on bus lines 19, 33, 37, 42, 59, 60, 107, 130, 152, 160, 161 and 168. You can also use the he Buenos Aires metro’s D Line (getting off at Olleros station) and then hop on the Mitre train line (getting off at Lisandro de la Torre). What do 2026 Argentina Open tickets cost? Tickets to watch the Argentina Open are available through Ticketek.  Prices depend on location, day of the week, and whether it’s a daytime or nighttime game. The main draw starts on Monday, February 9. Tickets for that day start at AR$25500 (just over US$17 at the official rate). As the rounds go by, the price increases: semifinals and finals tickets start at AR$90,000 (US$61) Whole-week packs start at AR$420,000 (just over US$285) and go up to AR$1,560,000 (US$1,061).
